Long Time Gone – The Everly Brothers
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Written by: Frank Hartford / Tex Ritter
Tabbed by: maguri
Tuning: Standard

I tabbed out two versions here:
1. Studio version from "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us" (1958)
2. Live version (http://-.-/watch?ds49aTbKeXEwsPjw)

Studio version from "Songs Our Daddy Taught Us"

Capo 2nd fret
Play: D
Key: E

It’s difficult to hear the guitar(s ?) clearly. I finally came up with this
here, which is at least close, playable and sounds good:

“RIFF”
capo 2nd fret
  D
  1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
e|----5-2-----3-2-|----5-2-----3---|
B|3-3-3-3---3-3-3-|3-3-3-3---3-3---|
G|2-2-2---0-0-----|2-2-2---0-0-0---|
D|0-------0-------|0-------0-------|
A|-------h2-------|-------h2-------|
E|----------------|----------------|

I play a regular D-shape and use the pinky to play the short note on the 5th
fret, e-string (one gets used to it very quickly). This “RIFF” is played
throughout the song with minor variations whenever there is a D chord.

[Verse 1]
            D D
You cheated me and made me lonely
           D A
I tried to be your very own
              G C D
There'll be a day you'll want me only
           D A [break] D
But when I lea-eave, I'll be a long time gone
               G D
Be a long time gone, be a long time gone
            D A [break] D
Yes, when I lea-eave, I'll be a long time gone

[Verse 2]
                D D
You're gonna be sad, you're gonna be weepin'
                D A
You're gonna be blue and all alone
                  G C D
You'll regret the day you seen me leavin'
              D A [break] D
‘Cause when I lea-eave, I'll be a long time gone
               G D
Be a long time gone, be a long time gone
            D A [break] D
Yes, when I lea-eave, I'll be a long time gone

[Verse 3]
              D D
You'll see my face through tears and sorrow
                D A
You'll miss the love you called your own
               G C D
Baby, there'll be no tomorrow
              D A [break] D
‘Cause when I lea-eave, I'll be a long time gone

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

Phil plays regular chords here. The 2nd guitar (Don) uses a capo 2nd fret
and plays a slim version of the “riff” from the studio version during intro
and outro, the interludes and generally whenever there is an E in the
verses. During the rest of the song Don just doubles Phil’s chords playing
a different inversion. The C chord from the studio version is left out and
some other changes are added.

“RIFF”
capo 2nd fret
  D
  1 + 2 + 3 + 4 +
e|2-------2-------|
B|3-------3-------|
G|2-------0-------|
D|0-------0-------|
A|--------2-------|
E|----------------|

These are the chords for the capoed guitar (see studio version above):

E = D (play the “riff” above)
B = A
A = G
